UKC Tuzla applies a new surgical approach for a complex pelvic fracture

The Orthopaedics and Traumatology team used the so-called Stoppa approach for pelvic surgery at the institution for the first time.

The Orthopaedics and Traumatology team at University Clinical Centre Tuzla has reported the institution's first use of the so-called Stoppa approach in the surgical treatment of a complex pelvic fracture.

According to the official report, an incision in the lower abdomen provides direct access to the inner pelvis and allows fracture stabilisation while limiting disruption of major muscle groups. In this case, the patient was a 20-year-old with multiple injuries, including a severe pelvic fracture and hip dislocation.

The operation lasted eight hours, and the institution stated on 6 October that postoperative recovery was proceeding without complications. The choice of surgical technique depends on the injury and individual multidisciplinary assessment; this article is not a recommendation for a particular procedure.
