University Clinical Hospital Mostar commissions a new linear accelerator

The new system expands radiotherapy capacity at the Oncology Clinic and provides a technical basis for developing stereotactic radiotherapy.

University Clinical Hospital Mostar announced that a new linear accelerator entered service at its Oncology Clinic on 2 October 2026. Procured through the LIFEGATE project, the system represents an investment of almost EUR 2.6 million.

A linear accelerator delivers high-energy radiation to a planned treatment area while seeking to limit exposure of surrounding healthy tissue. The new equipment also provides a technical foundation for further development of stereotactic radiotherapy in carefully selected patients.

The institution now has two treatment units, which should improve continuity and access to radiotherapy. Patients should contact their oncologist or the hospital's Oncology Clinic for eligibility assessment, treatment planning and appointments; this article is not a recommendation for a particular therapy.
